Well here we are, still! Kuala Lumpur will be our home base for the next two days, and then we are hopping a flight to Surat Thani, Thailand. From there it’s easy to get on a bus/ferry to the islands of Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao. Hopefully the weather is good when we get there! I can’t tell you how excited we are to just chill out on a beach, read, drink, and do nothing…because you know, life has been tough lately 🙂
So a few days ago we went to go check out the Petronas Towers. They really are incredibly beautiful, but the thing with tall buildings is you have to find the right place to photograph them from. We were told about this place called the Skybar in one of the hotels that has a great view at night, but never ended up making it there. So we roamed around and found a park outside of the towers, KL City Park. It’s a green oasis in the middle of the city, and it was so refreshing to find! We walked along the trails and found a little water park where all the parents bring their kids.
Yesterday Jesse and I walked to Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve. I was so excited about this place when I first heard about it. It’s one of the oldest forest reserves in Malaysia, and it’s right in the middle of the city, about a 15 minute walk away from our guest house. So we packed up, took our water, camera, and the essential bug spray and headed out, ready to see the monkeys, snakes, birds and lizards.
I was over it about three minutes after we started on the trail.
Mosquitos seem to LOVE the natural bug repellent we were wearing. And since we don’t have any anti-malarial pills with us, we decided to get out, fast! Although I did see one monkey, which made me feel a bit better for leaving so quickly. I suppose DEET is a necessary evil if you want to enjoy nature out here…
